How to sell without really selling
October 7, 2010I’m sure that like me, most of you hate being sold to. I even hate those sales people on department stores who approach you as soon as you walk into their shop and ask you what you need. Or those who call you and ask if you’d like to get a free something in exchange that you apply for their insurance or credit card. Or those product pitches you see on your email and would mark as spam right away. So I guess the only way that we can sell without selling is by advising, recommending and endorsing products.
First thing to do is get to know your market. What do they need? You can do polls on your website, or surveys. As soon as they give you an answer, empathize and echo their frustrations should they have one. Share your own experiene and tell them how the product you are about to endorse have helped you in the best way possible.
Be honest. Everybody knows that no product is perfect. So DO NOT endorse a product with 100% positive review because you will only get cynics and raised eyebrows. You can compare it with another similar product so people will know what exactly they’re getting.
Lastly, give your readers some enthusiasm on your shared experience and your rating and recommendation for the product. Take away that salesman’s hat off and start talking to your readers as if you’re one of them or how you would recommend a product to a friend.
