Internet Connection in Metro Manila

Written June 25, 2010 Being a virtual assistant for several years now, and having lived in several different places in Metro Manila, I can safely say that I have experienced all there is to Internet Connection In Manila. Growing up, I was one of the few kids in my own circle, who was internet and computer savvy. My family continually upgraded our PC specs every time there was something (worth our money) new. No, I am not a programmer, a designer or any of that techie slash guru peeps. But I know my way around. I thought of writing this post as recently, I was on the lookout for a good ISP in our new house in the northern part of the metro. And man, it was hard! Let me give you a list of our ISP providers : 2. PLDT DSL – of course, they were the first.. and being the top telephone provider for the Philippines, who would say no to anything they offered. I hate that they monopolized the internets but, if it was giving me the right connection.. who was I to complain. Oh, and let me reiterate that during the first few years of the internet, it was insanely expensive too. 3. Globe DSL (1mbps and 2mbps) – I was using the internet for my primary bread and butter so I had to invest. 4. Globe Tattoo – was okay.. but during certain hours only. I think that mornings were the worst. 5. Sun Broadband – mmm.. just OK. But it also had its downtime. Not so reliable if you need calls for work or even for pleasure. 6. Wi-Tribe – we just signed up today so I have yet to discover its ups (which I hope is a lot higher on that ratio) and downs. You’ll hear more from me in the coming days.
1. PLDT Vibe/Blast/and other dial-up cards – Yes, I started by using these cards too. Always looking for the best deal or promo or whatnot. The best hours and the best connection naturally got constant deals from me (and the family).
